Come and celebrate the beginning of Autumnal abundance and the opening of our ‘Life Labyrinth’ at the Earthship Fife Visitor Centre. SCI at the Earthship is hosting a free music and storytelling festival for families on Saturday 12th September (2-5pm).
Adults and families are invited to come along to listen to music from Dog on a Swing and Lyndsey Shields and storytellers Alette Willis and Daru Mcaleece in the beautiful setting of Craigencalt by Kinghorn Loch. There will be free fun activities for children, such as willow weaving and wooden games, and refreshments available to purchase, including local beer. We will also be joined by Solar Ripe – a small organic herb company selling herbal teas, infused oils and balms.
Local community groups and volunteers have spent weeks creating the ‘Life Labyrinth’ – planting native wild flowers and shrubs to symbolise life and its stages and transitions. The official opening of the labyrinth will be held at the Harvest Festival. Come and enjoy this beautiful new creation!
Suggested donation for event: £5/adult, children free. All money collected will go to Sustainable Communities Initiatives, registered charity SC034819, to help us hold great community events, run fun workshops and open up the Earthship Fife Visitor Centre to the public.
We’ve got a great line-up for the day:
Dog on a Swing
What other people say: “Brilliant understated songwriting” (Lach) in an “earthy, sincere style [that is] effortlessly passionate” (Thank Folk For That) resulting in an “honest and soulful sound” (Words For Music).
What Ed says: I play music under the name of Dog On A Swing. I have a fluid and flexible band- this gig will be played as a duo. Our second EP, After Work, is out now on CD and download. Go to dogonaswing.co.uk to stream/buy it!
As a singer-songwriter, Lyndsay blends soulful singing with intricate guitar playing.
“Her intricate guitar work … and her distinct voice … brought about an incredibly chilled atmosphere. Her talents definitely deserve discovery” (Tait, 2014)
Alette Willis uses stories to help mend relationships between people and the rest of the natural world. She is Storyteller in Residence to the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland. www.restoryingtheearth.com
Daru Mcaleece is a Druid Storyteller, artist and outdoors facilitator whose storytelling is fuelled by a love of myths and Nature. For him storytelling supports inspiration and connects communities. He combines telling with activities that encourages connection to nature – such as workshops in story-making and the discovery of personal narratives. All this is guided by his joy in inspiring creativity, connecting people to the amazing world around us.
Solar Ripe is a small Organic Herb Company selling herbal teas, infused oils and balms. In order to grow some of the herbs themselves, and to show people local medicinal plants, Simone and Martin have a Medicinal Herb Garden at Craigencalt Farm. At the SCI Harvest Festival they will be selling their organic products and demonstrating how to make medicinal oils at home. There will be a short tour of their Medicine Wheel to meet some of the plants at 3.30pm leaving from their stall: solarripe.eu #solarripe
